A New Zealand naval ship, the HMNZS Manawanui, has sunk off the coast of Samoa, marking the first loss of a naval vessel since World War II.
The ship ran aground near Upolu Island while conducting a survey, caught fire, and eventually capsized.
Thankfully, all 75 crew members and passengers, including scientists and foreign military personnel, were safely evacuated.
The cause of the grounding is currently unknown and will be investigated, with the New Zealand Defence Force focusing on salvaging the vessel and mitigating environmental damage.
