The HMNZS Manawanui, a New Zealand naval ship specializing in diving and ocean imaging, sank off the coast of Samoa on Saturday night.
The ship encountered trouble while surveying a reef near Upolu Island, ran aground, caught fire, and eventually capsized.
All 75 crew and passengers, including scientists and foreign military personnel, were rescued safely, but the ship was lost.
The cause of the grounding is under investigation, and efforts are underway to salvage the vessel and minimize any environmental impact.
