Imran Khan, former Pakistani prime minister, is running for the position of chancellor at Oxford University, a largely ceremonial role with responsibilities including fundraising and oversight.
Khan, a former international cricketer and Oxford alumnus, served as Pakistan's prime minister from 2018 to 2022 before being ousted.
His candidacy has been made easier by new rules allowing online nominations and voting.
The election will take place in October, with voting open to Oxford graduates and staff, and the new chancellor will be announced shortly after.
