A large group of pilot whales, which are social and travel together, got stranded on a beach in Australia.

Unfortunately, some of them died, but most were rescued by experts and volunteers.

Scientists are still trying to understand why these strandings happen.

They think the whales may have gotten confused or followed each other into danger, or they might be stressed or sick.
