The US military launched airstrikes against nine targets in Syria, targeting Iranian-backed groups in retaliation for attacks on U.S. personnel.
The strikes were carried out by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) in response to several attacks on American forces over the past 24 hours.
The U.S. aims to weaken these groups' ability to plan and launch future attacks on U.S. and allied forces in the region.
The commander of CENTCOM, Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, stated that attacks against U.S. and coalition forces in the region will not be tolerated.
