The European Union is sending eight firefighting planes to Portugal to assist in battling wildfires that have injured 12 firefighters, two seriously.
Several fires erupted over the weekend in the Aveiro region, forcing roughly 70 residents to evacuate their homes.
Authorities have closed motorways, including the main road connecting Lisbon and Porto, due to the spreading flames.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed gratitude to France, Greece, Italy, and Spain for their swift assistance and urged other member states to provide further support.
