A company, Lingo Telecom, that used artificial intelligence to make phone calls mimicking President Biden's voice to New Hampshire voters has been fined $1 million by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The calls falsely claimed that voting in the state's primary would prevent voters from participating in the general election.
The FCC considers this case a troubling example of how AI could be used to manipulate voters and undermine democracy.
Meanwhile, the political strategist who orchestrated the calls, Steve Kramer, faces a separate $6 million fine and criminal charges.
