A small boat carrying twenty-seven migrants capsized in rough seas approximately twenty miles from Libya's coast.
According to seven survivors rescued near Lampedusa, the vessel took on water, causing it to tilt and twenty passengers to fall overboard.
Among the missing are reportedly five women and three children; the survivors included two adults from Syria, Egypt, and Sudan, plus one child.
Italian authorities, having ceased the search, notified their Libyan and Maltese counterparts about this tragic incident.
