President Zelenskyy wants to stop the big war by having some parts of Ukraine join NATO, a group of countries that help each other.
This means those safe places would get strong protection, and hopefully, Ukraine could get its other land back later by talking.
He doesn't want to give up any land, he wants all of Ukraine in NATO, just like a big family sticking together.
Zelenskyy says that to truly stop the fighting, NATO needs to protect Ukraine's safe areas quickly to keep Russia from attacking again.
