The first US case of a new mpox strain, clade Ib, has been reported in a traveler returning from East Africa.
Health officials confirmed the individual experienced a mild illness, received treatment in California, and is now recovering.
The risk to the general public remains low, and the current mpox prevention guidelines remain unchanged.
This new strain, while more severe in some areas, is not yet widely spreading within the United States.
