Michael Kovrig, a former Canadian diplomat, was held in custody by China for more than three years, and he recently shared his experience.
He described spending months in solitary confinement, a tiny room with no daylight, and facing daily interrogations that lasted up to nine hours.
Kovrig believes this treatment was psychological torture, designed to break him down and make him feel isolated and hopeless.
During his imprisonment, he missed the birth of his daughter and was only able to meet her when she was two-and-a-half years old.
