Former NBA star Gary Payton Sr. has been named the new head coach of the College of Alameda men's basketball team.
Payton, a Basketball Hall of Famer, previously coached at Lincoln University in Oakland and led the Big 3 league's Bivouac team to a championship.
The College of Alameda athletic director, Remaundo Vaughn, praised Payton's leadership, winning spirit, and commitment to community involvement.
Payton, an Oakland native, inherits a program that struggled last season and hopes to bring his expertise and passion to the team.
