US Army soldier Travis King, who crossed from South Korea to North Korea in July 2023, will plead guilty to desertion and other charges.
King, who had been in detention in South Korea for assault, was released and then unexpectedly fled across the border.
After being returned to the US, King will face a military trial where he plans to plead guilty to five charges, including desertion and assault, as part of a plea deal.
The remaining charges, including possession of child pornography, will be dropped by the Army.
