The UK has experienced its hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures reaching 34.8 degrees Celsius in Cambridge on Monday.
The previous highest temperature recorded in 2024 was 32 degrees Celsius, recorded in Heathrow and Kew Gardens in July.
The Met Office reported that this is only the 11th time since 1961 that temperatures have reached this high, with eight of those occurrences happening since 2000.
A yellow health alert is in place until Tuesday morning due to the heatwave, which is linked to a kink in the jet stream caused by a tropical storm in the US.
