Burkina Faso's military government is considering reinstating the death penalty, which was abolished in 2018.
The last execution took place in 1988, and involved four individuals accused of attempting to overthrow the president.
A government source stated that the death penalty is under consideration, and will be discussed before being proposed to the Transitional Legislative Assembly.
Justice Minister Rodrigue Bayala confirmed that the death penalty is being discussed and will be incorporated into the draft criminal code.
