Venice, known for its beauty and fragility, implemented a €5 entrance fee to discourage day-trippers from overwhelming the city during peak hours.
The experiment, which ran from April to mid-July, targeted visitors arriving between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on select dates.
While the mayor claims the fee limited visitor peaks, a comprehensive analysis of the data is still pending.
The entrance fee generated €2.43 million, significantly exceeding the projected €700,000, leading some critics to question the program's effectiveness.
