Learn English: End of an Era: UN Leaves Lebanon (normal)

The UN Security Council voted to end the UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon within the next two years.

Initially extended to 2026, a phased withdrawal of approximately 10,000 troops will then follow.

This decision comes after nearly 50 years of operation, amidst ongoing tensions between Lebanon and Israel.

The UN's goal is for Lebanon to independently manage its southern border security in the future.
