Hamas leaders are meeting to choose a new leader after Yahya Sinwar, the group's leader, was killed in an Israeli operation.
Khalil al-Hayya, Sinwar's deputy and a senior Hamas official outside Gaza, is considered a strong candidate for the leadership position.
The killing of Sinwar, who was Israel's most wanted man, comes two months after the death of former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Despite the loss of Sinwar, Hamas insists their conditions for a ceasefire remain unchanged, including demands for an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages.
