The World Health Organization (WHO) is deciding if the spreading mpox virus outbreak in Africa should be declared a global emergency.
There has been a significant increase in mpox cases and deaths in Africa, especially in Congo, where a new and more dangerous form of the virus has been found.
The WHO Director-General is asking experts to advise them on the best way to respond to the outbreak.
While mpox was declared a global emergency in 2022, there are concerns about limited access to vaccines and treatments in Africa.
