Labour's plan to tax private schools seems like a good idea to help state schools, but it could have negative consequences.
While many private schools would simply adjust their fees or cut costs, smaller schools might close, forcing students into already overcrowded state schools.
Private schools also provide valuable resources, like special education needs places and extracurricular activities, that benefit the community.
Instead of simply taxing them, Labour should focus on making private schools work for everyone by sharing resources and facilities with the public.
